Posted On December 10, 2010
Pope Benedict XVI has advanced the sainthood causes of 16 Catholics. The announcement was made following the Pope’s meeting with Cardinal Angelo Amato, head of the Vatican’s office for the causes of saints, Dec. 10.
The Church’s newest saint will be Blessed Guido Maria Conforti, founder of the Xaverian Missionaries and Italian bishop who died in 1931. The Pope has authorized a miracle attributed to Bl. Conforti’s intercession, the second needed to affirm his sainthood.

Here are some more details from MISNA:
Preparations are underway in the home of the Xaverian missionaries in view of the forthcoming canonization of Monsignor Guido Maria Conforti (1865-1931), founder of the congregations in 1895. Last Friday, Benedict XVI authorized the publication of the decree and “the next step – wrote Father Rino Benzoni, Superior General of the Xaverians to his fellow brothers – will be the public Consistory wherein the Ppoe shall ask the Cardinals’ opinion for the canonization of the Blessed one, defining the date when this will happen as well”. One of the proposed dates, to be considered for the canonization, is October 23, 2011, which marks World Missionary Day, a celebration that was first suggested by Guido Maria Conforti himself. “We are preparing to receive at least 10,000 pilgrims from all over the world,” said Father Luigi Zucchinelli, entrusted to follow the event’s organization and of the collateral activities along with Father Guglielmo Camera. The program has yet to be defined, but Father Zucchinelli said: “we are thinking of organizing a first event on Saturday preceding the canonization and a thanksgiving celebration on the day after the canonization. In the latter case, we were thinking about the Saint Paul basilica outside the walls, where the founder of the Xaverians was ordained a bishop”. Since their foundation, Xaverians have opened missions in four continents. In Asia: Bangladesh, Japan, Philippines, Indonesia. In Africa: Sierra Leone, Mozambique, Cameroon, Chad, Burundi, DR Congo. In America: Colombia, Brazil, Mexico, USA. In Europe: Italy, UK, Spain, France.
This is great!
